Southwest Reclamation Facility

The City of Henderson Water Treatment Facility is located at St. Rose Parkway, south of Paseo Verde Parkway. From some views, it may look like a small mountain emerging from the landscape. It is actually 20’ tall berms designed to screen the water treatment facility from the adjacent homes.

There were four design elements that had to be considered: 1) screen the future water reclamation facility, 2) provide drainage through the site, 3) provide a walkway system for the adjacent neighbors and 4) provide a trail system along St. Rose Parkway as required by the City of Henderson.

The landscape design was a collaboration between Tate Snyder Kimsey Architects, Southwick Landscape Architects and the Neighborhood Advisory Committee.

The interior landscape of the berm system is native revegetation, designed to look similar to the desert area that existed before the facility was built. The exterior landscape of the berm is designed to be somewhat geometric.  As you can see in the picture, the exterior angled berm design includes different colors and sizes of decorative rock and alternating rows and grids of plant materials that differ for each angled berm section.

The west portion of the site includes a walking path with lights, shade trees and seating elements for neighborhood use. Other features of the site include gabion wall planters within the functional drainage way just west of the berms. There is also a trail along St. Rose Parkway which is part of the City of Henderson’s trail system. It is a very unique landscape design.
