2010 First Quarter

The beginning of the year always brings with it the feeling of newness, a fresh perspective and a good dose of reflection.  This year is no different.  After scraping through 2009, we are happy to be on the other side and looking at a promising 2010.  Reflecting on the past we realize we still have wonderful clients and consultants and a great staff.  With that, we can accomplish anything we set our minds to!

We started this quarter’s events on a rainy evening with an enlightening tour of City Center by Gensler.  This “city within a city” has been awarded six distinct LEED Gold certifications to ARIA Resort & Casino’s hotel tower, convention center and showroom; as well as Vdara Hotel & Spa, Mandarin Oriental, Crystals, and Veer Towers.  We enjoyed the experience and would like to thank the AIA Las Vegas Chapter for setting up a wonderful event.

On March 20th, we participated in the Annual Clean-up of the River Mountains Loop Trail with the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation. It was a beautiful day to get out of the office and serve our community. While gathering old bottles, pieces of cardboard and even a couple of golf balls, we passed the historic remains of the early squatter’s camps near Railroad Pass Casino. What a great way to spend a Saturday morning, giving back and also enjoying the impressive River Mountains Loop Trail.

Finally, we want to welcome Matt Durham back to the office and back from Egypt. He took the opportunity to live in Cairo for about six months. Check the March Newsletter for his article about Walkable Cities. Be sure to watch the SLAM for other articles by Matt about his time in Egypt. We are glad he is back.
